Water Systems on Earth Research

Project Outline

The Term 3 Major Research Project will include a minimum 500 – 750 word report (approx. 2-3 pages of 12 point font text – not including Title Page, Table of Contents, Pictures/Graphics or Bibliography).

The report must be typed (double spaced) in 12 point font and include:

  • a Graphic Title Page (Title and Picture on the main body of the page; full name and division in the bottom right hand corner)
  • a minimum of Three Graphics (located in the appropriate space within the body of the text – at the end of a major paragraph/section or formatted at the side of the text that pertains to the graphic)
  • Research Paper Format includes: Table of Contents; Introductory Paragraph; a minimum of three Body Paragraphs; a Summary Paragraph or Conclusion; and a Bibliography (a minimum of 3 sources cited)
  • Report must be stapled together (one staple – top left hand corner – no duo tangs or report covers)


Project Overview

1)   Choose a Topic From the List Provided – or get approval from Ms. Friesen for your own topic

2)   Gather your research material – library, movies, informative worksheets and computer lab time will be provided

3)   Organize your research – use concept webs, outlines, sub-topic cards etc.

4)   Write a Sloppy Copy Outline (subtitles and point form)

5)   Write a Rough Draft

6)   Review and Edit your Rough Draft – have a friend or family member read it and make suggestions

7)   Write your final draft –  insert graphics, spell check and word count

8)   Format your Bibliography – proper format will be discussed in a future class

9)   Create your Title Page (Draw or use Computer Graphics)

10)                   The report should be approx 7 pages  (1. Title Page; 2. Table of Contents; 3-6 Report Body and Graphics; 7. Bibliography)

11)                   Due Date TBA (approx. 1st week of June)

***Note – it is expected that students organize their time wisely in-class and at home. Late Projects will be penalized with a reduced mark.
