Mrs. Friesen’s Class
Welcome Everyone!
I look forward to getting to know each student and working with you to achieve your goals. It is important to establish some classroom expectations so that we can all enjoy the time we spend together.
Classroom:
This is our space in the school. Let’s keep it clean and make it a great place to work together. How do we achieve this? It’s simple. Do not bring cell phones, or ipods/mp3 players into the classroom unless you are given permission to do so. Do not eat or chew gum in class. Please clean up after yourself so the next person can enjoy the space. You can bring in a bottle of water that has a secure lid. We will do a class clean-up & stack chairs each day before you leave.
Our classroom can get pretty noisy if we are all chatting. Remember to raise your hand and be patient if you need to ask a question or make a comment. When working in groups it is important to speak quietly and respectfully. We can’t always agree on everything so remember to be respectful of other students’ ideas and contributions.
For safety reasons; PLEASE don’t yell, throw things (including paper airplanes) or stand on your desk/chair.
Your assigned desk in class is not the place to store your classroom supplies. Use your locker to store your stuff. Desk assignments will change throughout the year and other people will use your desk during the day.
Do not throw your trash in the wastebasket from a distance e.g. no paper ball free-throws or juice box tosses. Remember to recycle your containers and paper products.
Hallways:
Classes are always in session. When transitioning from classroom to classroom – Explorations, P.E. etc; remember to walk quietly and swiftly. Do not go to your locker during transition times. Be prepared and use your breaks to go to your locker.
Assemblies:
Walk quietly in a single file line to the gym. Situate yourself next to someone that will not distract you. If you are distracting others or being disruptive, you will be asked to leave.
Fieldtrips:
Permission forms and fees are collected in advance of the trip. Failure to provide the requirements could result in a missed experience.
Gymnasium/P.E.:
Gym strip is required for all classes. Be prepared to sweat! The gym is an extension of the classroom so please conduct yourselves accordingly. Safety is our main priority! P.E. classes are sometimes taught outside; even in the rain. An extra pair of shoes may come in handy on these days. I will provide advanced notice when possible. Mundy Park is off-limits unless supervised – no exceptions.
Washroom:
Visits to the washroom should be done before school, during nut break and at lunch. If you have an emergency, exceptions can be made; but please make your request at an appropriate time. During the lesson or during a test is not an appropriate time.
Fire Drills/Earthquake Drills:
Drills are done several times per year to ensure that you are prepared for an emergency. It is extremely important that you listen carefully to instructions and follow any directions that are necessary in a safe and prompt manner. Do not talk to other students during these drills. You will be required to spend time after school if your conduct is inappropriate.
General Information:
Each one of us has unique skills and individual circumstances. The above expectations are provided as a guideline to help us all achieve our goals and to preserve the learning environment. Some students are visual learners, others are kinesthetic learners, some students learn well in groups and others are more individual. It is difficult to address everyone’s unique needs all the time. Please let me know if there is something I can do to facilitate a better experience for you. This might be a simple request for a seat change or it could be that you’re having a rough day. Please let me know. I am almost always available to talk right away but if not we can make plans to discuss your concerns as soon as possible.
